Happy Halloween!
It's Halloween here in the U.S.A. (And many other parts of the world, of course!) The macabre origins of this holiday notwithstanding, if ever there was a day to simultaneously celebrate great art, childhood joy and breathtaking creativity, this certainly is the one! The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators
...or "SCBWI," as they're also known (and more easily referred to haha), is a very worthwhile organization I've recently joined. SCBWI is an indispensable resource for artists and writers in the world of children's books, and I highly recommend anyone interested in entering the field to join. Every month SCBWI gives out a "prompt" to members to get the creative juices flowing -- either a word to illustrate, or a phrase around which to build a story. Members who submit their writing or illustration based on this word gets to have their work displayed in a special dedicated gallery for that month. I plan to submit an illustration for this month's call to entry; we'll see how it goes!
